Avocet Silhouette

ram ram  peeps      Didn’t go birding yesterday (Sunday) as I was visited by my three daughters. One from Paris, another from New York and the other from Wales.  Oooooer missus, what a treat.  Earlier that morning Lady de Q and Yours T, accompanied by Melanie Estelle from Abergavenny drove to the asparagus farm near Pegwell Bay. Kilos of asparagooneys were purchased along with a huge white cauliflower. Melanie Estelle’s going to do a cauliflower cheesy thingy as well as making a stock from the asparagussy broken off bibs and bobboes.   Lady de Q’s dinner that evening was a triumph, especially the salmon cooked with ginger and lemon in silver foil, followed by blackcurrent jelly filled with blueberries and raspberries and topped with hand made meringues covered in cream, chocolate (dark) and shaved almonds.  After that sumptuous repast I waddled up to bed like the Fat Boy of Peckham.  This morning Poppy left for the Big Apple and Daisy Pareejee. Fortunately, Melanie Estelle’s staying the week and she accompanied ancient papa to Restharrow Scrape for a morning’s birding.  Well my drears, we were rewarded with the arrival of two avocets who landed on the island in front of the Jeckle. I enclose smudge for your delectation.  Duncan joined us in the hide arriving in time to smudge the beautiful and elegant avocets.  We indulged in our favourite game of trying to smudge the diving tufties and capturing their mince pies before they disappeared beneath the surface. I managed the whole body with the neck plunging under, but Duncan Disorderly captured the evasive eye shot. I’ll enclose smudge of the diving tufty just before the plunge as well as an ‘Aaargh’ smudge of a couple of mallard ducklings with mum
