Two of my Heroes

Yo Doods   I didn’t go birding today so I thought I’d post a couple of Barnaby’s from my archive. You know it makes sense.  The first smudge is of the racing driver Ayrton Senna who I ‘shot’ in the Marlboro McLaren garage at the track in Montreal, Canada. It was 1988, in the year of his exciting duals with Alain Prost. I adapted my original photo into a series of digital paintings which I exhibited a few years back. Fortunately I still have my original print.

The second smudge is of the first great photographer Henri Lartigue.  Dear Henri lead the way.  His early pictures of racing cars are amazing. I had been lunching with him in Paris and had dropped him back to his house for a cup of Rosy. I was very taken with his St Louis Blues* and asked if I might take a picture of him in situ.  It wasn’t a ‘staged’ portrait, just an off the cuff smudge. Nevertheless I was very pleased to have captured this moment of my hero. It was 1968
